How to Access Virtual Counseling?

What to Expect from Virtual Counseling Sessions?

  • One-on-one counseling

  • Solution-focused, brief therapy framework

  • School-based model

  • Confidential and HIPAA-compliant

  • Evidence-based and culturally sensitive

  • Short-term (up to six sessions)

  • Provided at NO COST

Virtual Counseling Eligibility

The following entities funded by BIE are eligible for Virtual Counseling:

  • K-12 schools

  • Haskell Indian Nations University students and staff.

  • Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute students and staff

  • Students and staff from Tribal Colleges and Universities receiving funding from BIE

  • Staff members from other programs and/or departments funded by BIE

BHWP Virtual Counseling Services DO NOT support:

  • Long-term, intensive therapy

  • Substance abuse treatment

  • Diagnostic testing

  • Sharing counseling progress with supervisors (as part of personnel actions)

  • Psychological exams

What is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy?

According to research, solution-focused brief therapy:

  • Decreases behavioral health symptoms.

  • Significantly improves student or staff well-being once they implement recommended behavior changes (when provided in a school setting).

  • Is effective for students who have intellectual, learning or developmental difficulties.

  • Is adaptable for cultural sensitivity.
